Grandma Mary comes to visit

Friday, August 5

Today was a crazy day. Besides working, I picked Maisie up from school just after 3:00 and ran to Lee’s to get raspberries, because they were on sale $14.00/flat, couldn’t pass that up since we love raspberry jam at our house. Then we picked Parker up from Regina’s, ran the raspberries home, and then headed to Ogden to pick up Eric’s mom. Eric’s mom has a friend that brings her to Ogden and then we pick her up and return her.  After we picked her up, we went to Yogurt Factory for a pizza pocket and yogurt. I love Yogurt Factory, especially since I worked there for four years during and after high school. I will stop any chance I get for a yummy frozen yogurt. After dinner, we went to my cousin, Jacob & Rike’s wedding shower at my Aunt Sheri’s house. Then back to Logan to Maisie’s back-to-school swim party at the Aquatic Center. There were a ton of people. Maisie found her friends and we didn’t see her much after that, but Parker had fun just swimming and playing by us. We left at 9:30 and went to Macey’s to get stuff to make my jam. I washed the berries and mashed them so they would be ready to make in the morning. Saturday morning, I made four batches of jam. We went to Mandarin Garden’s for lunch and then Twizlberry, another one of my favorite places, for dessert. We took Eric home and got swimsuits and then took the kids to Providence splash park. It took them a while to warm up since there were other people there, but eventually Maisie and Parker enjoyed playing in the water. We were there for about an hour and then went back home. I had to take pictures at a wedding reception in Brigham so I was gone most of the evening. Sunday afternoon, we took Mary back to Ogden, and then later in the evening enjoyed a family bike ride towards Hyrum. Busy weekend, but we had lots of fun.

After school I took Maisie out to take her 3^rd grade pictures. She looked so beautiful. I told her she looked like she could be 18. She was so ecstatic. She was squealing and screaming because she was so excited to look 18. I think we are in trouble. It was very easy to get good pictures when my model is very natural at taking pictures. They turned out soooo cute and I was so excited for them. Now I just need to talk Parker into letting me take is 5 year old pictures.

Maisie's 1st day of 3rd Grade

Monday, August 22

Maisie’s first day of 3^rd grade. She was really excited to go back to school. It is hard to believe she is in 3^rd grade. She is growing up way too fast. She has Mrs. Coulombe, same as 2^nd grade. She really likes Mrs. Coulombe and I tease her that she is the teacher’s pet. She likes to help her in the classroom after school. It is nice to be back on a regular schedule and not so hectic as summer.  I think it wore her out because that evening she had a total melt down. Every little thing she was busting out in tears. I made sure she went to bed early. Tuesday was much better.

Splash Park

Sunday, August 21

I took them to the Providence splash park. They had a lot of fun running through the water. It is a fun place to go for free. After they ran around for an hour or so, I had to go to the grocery store for a few items, then at the last minute we decided to go to the movie, Smurfs. I had to run the groceries home and barely made it to the movie. Smurfs is a cute movie. It is fun to see things from my childhood even when they are enhanced quite a bit.

I had the day off of work, which was really nice. I spent the day doing laundry and unpacking from camping. Sallie’s, our neighbor, son Gary was here visiting from California. Eric and Gary have become really good friends. They spent the day hanging out and catching up.  They went for a bike ride up Green Canyon. Eric had a good time and said it was a good bike ride for him. He hasn’t done much bike riding and was worried about keeping up with Gary. With the elevation change, they were about equal.

We had Sallie, Gary, and Jerry over for dinner. It is so nice having good neighbors. We are so grateful for Sallie and her friendship.  Gary left Friday morning so they didn’t stay too late. It is nice that he comes to visit at least once a year. One of these days we will make it to San Jose to see him. It would be a nice road trip for us.

Saturday, August 20

Maisie had a back-to-school get together for her class at the school. While she was at her party, Parker and I came to my office and I did a little bit of work. We then went to Aggie Ice cream for sandwiches and ice cream. Later that night we went to the demolition derby. It was the kids first one. They had a lot of fun. Parker couldn’t get over the crashing of the cars. He loved it.

Vea Camping Trip

Vea Family Reunion

Earlier this year when we went to Price for Eric’s grandpa’s funeral we talked to a couple of cousins and thought it would be fun to plan a cousins camping trip. Eric’s family does not get together very often. We drove down Thursday, August 11 in the afternoon and stopped at Eric’s brother, Travis’s house. We filled up our trailer with water and then headed to the farm. We decided to have camp above the farm so that it was close for those that wanted to come and go throughout the day. We stopped at Uncle Jerry’s and cousin, Danny drove us through the gates. We set up camp and then had a fire. The other’s didn’t come up until Friday evening. Friday morning we went and visited with Eric’s mom for a little while. She wasn’t coming up to camp because she had a busy weekend and does not like to go camping or go on the mountain.  We then went to the grocery store for a couple of things. Then back up to camp. It was pretty hot, but sitting in the shade wasn’t bad. Travis & Lisa and their girls were the first ones to come up. They got there in the afternoon. Then Steve & Mika, really close friends of the family. Jodi and her kids came up and then had to wait for Josh to bring their trailer up. He got called to work and had to work a little late. Cody and Lexi came up for the night and then went home. We cooked tin-foil dinners and stayed up late telling stories. It was so fun being together and just laughing and having a good time. Saturday, we all cooked breakfast and ate together. The moms and kids decided to go swimming at the Helper pool. Just after we got there some little kid had an accident in the pool and they had to pull everyone out and it ended up being about an hour before everyone could get back in. The kids were pretty patient, but we were close to leaving. Once we got in. The kids had a great time. It was nice to swim in the heat of the day. Bridget and her girls came and swam with us, it was really good to see them. They are growing up fast. Rylee ended up going with us to camp and staying the night. JaSalene ended up changing her mind and really wanted to come so she came up with Travis and Lisa. We cooked BBQ chicken and dutch oven potatoes for dinner. It turned out really good.  Everyone was a little worn out from the pool and the heat. We put the kids to bed and then enjoyed telling stories again. Cody and Lexi stayed the night on the back of their truck.  Sunday, it started sprinkling, but felt kind of good. We fixed breakfast and then started packing up. We left camp about 11:30. We went into Price to dump the trailer and then were on our way home. We hope to do something like this every summer. It was really good to get together and let the kids play and just have a good time.

On our way home we stopped at my parent’s house for dinner.  They have dinner once a month for the family and any birthdays that month.
